The first dose must be swallowed no later than 72 hours after unprotected sex, and the second dose must be taken 12 hours after the first dose. Women should take the first dose at a time that will make it convienient to take the second dose 12 hours later.

Women using a regular pack of birth control pills for emergency protection should not use the last seven (green or pink) pills, which do not contain any hormones.

Studies have shown that post coital use of birth control pills to be about 75% effective in preventing pregnancy.

Experts have predicted that this method could prevent as many as 1.7 million unwanted pregnancies and 800,000 abortions annually.

Side effects include nausea and vomiting.

Labs will not put this on the labels or circulars for legal reasons.

These six brands have the right combination of estrogen and progesterone to prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in a women's uterus.
